A family was left homeless after a fire broke out in their home Saturday morning.

This family needs help and you can help. Not only are they homeless but all the contents in the home were lost as well. I know its been a while since I've posted but life keeps a person in a daze sometimes. I've been pretty sick and have been doing less scenes because of it. I decided to post quite a few of them here. I'm still hurting from this flu bug. It seems that there is a second faze that brings fever, body ache and much more. I hope you all are doing well.

I must also admit that I had thought about ending the site. I'm still not sure. When you bust your butt and people steal pictures from you, it makes you wonder if it's worth it. This site might be free but the Smilebox isn't and neither is my time or yours. So many of you work hard at these scenes to take care of people and the last thing that should be done is having your image and my shots stolen and used. I have a water mark that I can use and it's very tough to remove it. The only problem is it covers the shot. Let me know what you think. There is a comment button below or send me an email.

Two Die In Rollover (GRAPHIC)

This crash happened on I-75 Northbound just short of the 428 mile marker. I was sitting on my porch having my first cup of coffee when I thought I heard a tire blow on I-75, which is not uncommon. Suddenly there was another bang that was followed up with terrible crashing sounds. The noise of that vehicle rolling was a sound I shall never forget. I could not see the accident because of the tree line. Before calling 911, I went upstairs so I could tell them what they had. Before I got upstairs the call came out over the scanner.

Columbia County Fire, E.M.S., Sheriffs Office, Lake City P.D. and the Florida Highway Patrol were on scene so fast it was unreal. They did an amazing job and did everything they could to treat the victims. Make sure you thank them all for what they do.

My Wife Is Injured In A Car Crash

A lot of you know me out there and know that I really take no pleasure in covering tragic events that occur to so many people on a daily basis. Last Wednesday, I was doing an advertising shoot for the paper when I received a very emotional phone call from my wife. It's the type of phone call that makes your mind go numb and puts your guts outside your body. She had just been in an accident and was in pain, scared and so much more. When I arrived at the accident scene, she was already in the E.R. The other driver was gone and our car was put into a field. I want to personally thank all those who treated my wife and those who visited her in the hospital.

This particular morning was the first time, that I can remember, that I didn't give her a kiss in the morning before she left for work. The reason, I was already working and I wanted her to get a little extra sleep.

If you love someone, let them know it. You never know when it might be your last chance.

A scary moment happened at this fire at 361 NE Colvin Ave. Monday night for the Columbia County and Lake City Fire departments. The call came in around 10:12pm as a fire located in a work shop. The workshop was a mobile home located next to a School bus being used as storage, a camper trailer and many other items. Chemical smoke gadget forces evacuation of school cafeteria at Ft. White Middle.

Columbia County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Sgt. Ed Seifert said the device was neither incendiary nor explosive, but noted it created noxious fumes, resulting in the school’s staff vacating the cafeteria. “All the kids are OK — that’s what our biggest concern was,” said Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter, who noted the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office planned to pursue charges against the student.

“The children had been relocated out of the classrooms and the school officials had the trash can outside,” Atkinson said. “The firefighters did ventilation of the cafeteria area with positive pressure ventilation fans, they evaluated some of the students there and heard some minor complaints and that’s when we turned it over to EMS for their evaluation.”

Authorities took a preteen juvenile into custody Sunday when they recovered a stolen van in the Wal-Mart parking lot. The driver of the van, a 30-year-old man from Orlando who is not related to the child, was arrested according to police reports.

As I write this, words that I have to say are hard to come by. This picture is of little Tosh Allen Tucker. He passed away last night and nobody yet knows why. He was not even two years old. This little boy was like a Grandchild to us. He lived with us for 3 1/2 day a week. He died at his mothers house about 8 hrs after leaving here. I ask you to say a prayer for him and his family.

A Brush Fire Burns Two Barns And Part Of A Home

An afternoon brush fire in Falling Creek destroyed two barns and damaged a home being remodeled as it consumed close to four acres of northern Columbia County property. Two other barns were saved.

Units from the Columbia County Fire Department and Florida Division of Forestry responded to the blaze on Falling Creek Road in the northern part of the county and spent close to three hours on site trying to douse the fire. The Columbia County Fire Department responded to the blaze with three engines, two tankers and four brush trucks as well as a total of 16 firefighters, including paid firefighters and reservists. The Florida Division of Forestry had an engine and plow on scene along with two personnel.

When you raise your kids, you always hope and pray that they will do good in this world. My wife and I would like to announce that our son has joined the Navy. He had to wait nearly 7 months to go to boot camp because of the back log from so many young people joining. Don't believe the news when they say that the military is hurting for recruits. It's just not true. Our son, like so many others who join, are proud of this country and what it stands for and we are proud of them. There is a comment box located just below this slide show. A Ft. White High School teen has died in a single vehicle accident off CR 131. The accident occurred about 1/2 mile south of CR 240. The teen, Josh Barton, 17, was traveling to a local restaurant heading north on CR 131, when he lost control of his 1999 Ford Ranger. Josh was a member of his high school baseball and soccer teams.

Katie Nicole Roberts, 27, was found dead in a trash can, after being shot to death late Friday evening. An autopsy done in Jacksonville confirmed Roberts died from bullet wounds. The Lake City Police Dept. and the F.D.L.E. are investigating.

Dean was a Vietnam veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He loved life, but most of all, he loved his friends.

Two Men Busted After Chase

William F. Padgett, 18, of Macclenny and Daniel M. Groves, 27, of Baldwin are accused of stealing an ATV from a local boat and ATV dealership in Columbia County.

The Two were spotted driving an ATV on Hwy 90 eastbound by Deputy Coonce. When spotted, the ATV riders sped away. When assistance arrived from the C.C.S.O. and the L.C.P.D. the area was cordoned off. The first to be caught was Groves and about an hour later Padgett was caught.

Crime Ring Busted In Columbia County

A Georgia couple was arrested Sunday, Dec. 28 after they were allegedly caught with more than $7,000 worth of stolen DVDs, CDs and other electronic merchandise from the Lake City Wal-Mart.

Mark Anthony Hudson, 37, Newton, Ga., and Donna Marlene King, 36, Valdosta, Ga., were charged with grand theft. This arrest would lead to the apprehension of seven others and the warrants for four others in what officials are describing as a crime ring.

“Officer Paul Kash was just very professional and did a really in-depth job and they admitted to being part of a (theft) ring based out of Georgia,” said Lake City Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Joe Moody. “That’s what they did — they traveled all over the southeast and stole property.”

After the arrest, a joint investigation involving the Lake City Police Department, Columbia County Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was launched and federal indictments are anticipated in South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Florida.

Authorities said,the crime ring operated under the ring leader, who had 10 teams of two people, who stole the merchandise by mainly targeting Wal-Mart and other electronic equipment stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

During the investigation, authorities discovered and searched warehouses in Georgia and seized approximately $20,000 in cash. Six vehicles and more than $100,000 in stolen merchandise was recovered. Authorities also recovered four stolen guns, including two that were stolen from Department of Motor Carrier Compliance officials in Ocala.

Moody later said of the investigation, “Sgt. Shawn Raggins, Officer Paul Kash and Cpl. John Spahalski and Bob Mills with Wal-Mart security did a fabulous job.”

Some of the other alleged crimes included doctor shopping and making false identifications.

Man Crashes Van Then Flees

A Lake City man is in custody after wrecking his 2002 Ford-350 van nearly head on after swerving into the wrong lane on CR-238 according to police reports. The crash initially sent two people to the hospital, one of those by lifeflight to a Gainesville hospital. When the driver of the van, Joseph A. Carrao, was found after he allegedly fled the scene into the nearby woods, he too would be lifeflighted to a Gainesville hospital. The C.C.F.D., C.C.E.M.S, C.C.S.O. C.C.S.O.K-9 and the F.H.P. were on scene.

William A McNaughton, 55, is life flighted after being hit by a F-150 on Hwy. 90 while crossing NW Cole Terrace. Tammy Birchard was heading East on Hwy 90 when she attempted to turn Left onto Cole terrace at that point she struck Mr. McNaughton. Birchard was cited for careless driving.

A Columbia County man allegedly caused a crash after he grabbed the steering wheel from the passenger seat, according to a Sheriff's office report. Ronald Aaron Geiger, 30, was charged with multiple felonies after the crash and ensuing chaos. The 2001 Dodge Neon was nearly buried up to the windshield after the high speed impact.

Two Morristown men were charged with felony possession burglary tools after an attempted break in of a motor home. Larry Johnson, 43, and Joesph Aatonini, 47, were pulled over after a B.O.L.O. was put out for a vehicle matching the description they were driving, a dark colored one ton Dodge Dually with silver trim, was spotted heading south on the I-75 on ramp. The Lake City Police Dept. along with the Lake City Fire Dept in conjunction with Unity Concepts held its second annual toy drive. This drive started last year when Hillary Sessions Came to lake City (Sessions is the mother of missing student Tiffany Sessions, who went missing in Gainesville, FL in Feb. 1989) and help start the now annual toy drive. Last year over $3,000.00 in toys was raised from Dec.18th to Dec. 24th. The Elks lodge, hearing about the toys, sent people who needed toys to the drive and those who needed food were sent to the Elks.

The sponsors are Wal-Mart, Dollar General, Spires Grocery, Catholic Charities, Smart Liquidations and Dollar Crazy.

Rollover On I-75 Leaves Two Dead

Two people died and three people were injured, one seriously, after the 1993 Ford Explorer they were riding in had a left rear tire separate sending the vehicle out of control. The driver tried to keep the vehicle on the road and over corrected. The Explorer then rotated and went into a multiple rollover.
